Doppelbock
This monster of a beer is a dark maghony color with an off white almost tan colored head. The aromas of this brew are reminiscent of fresh baked dark breads and sweet caramel. A slight bit of dark fruit aroma in the background. This full bodied lager has rich malty flavors of cooked caramel and fig, and a bit of roasty chocolate. The finish is semi sweet and non lingering. Almost falls off the pallet with the ever so slight caramel flavor on the tongue. This is a great beer to be sipping while sitting around the fireplace with friends and family. Prost!
Fun Fact:
Doppelbock - literally "double bock" - was first brewed in Munich by the monks of St. Francis of Paula. Historical versions were less well-attenuated than modern interpretations, resulting in a sweeter beer with less alcohol. The figurative “liquid bread” needed by monks during times of fasting.
